Puerto Rico-
Artists-
Fransico Oller (1751-1809)- He was influenced by european art, artisits like Pablo Picasso and Paul Cezanne. Oller was the first Latin American artist to birng the impressionist's intrest in light and color to Puerto Rico's tropical skies. The island's scenes fascinated him.

Jose Campeche (1751-1809)- He was the first major Puerto Rican artist. Campeche was known as the 18th century "Sanjuanero". Campeche was the son of a freed slave and an immigrant from the Canary Islands. He was influenced by a Spanish painter who was bamished to San Juan, Puerto Rico. Campeche was fascinated by religious paintings and many of his four hundred paintings were for the chruch.

Musicians-
Juan F. Acosta (1890-1968)- Acosta was a music teacher, composer and a musician. He wrote over eight hundred forty four musical pieces, including one hundred twenty seven hymns.
Rafael Hernandez (1892-1965)- Hernandez was an important composer in Puerto Rico in the 20th century. His songs were thought to express Puerto Rico's soul.
Important Figures-
Rafael Cordero (1790-1868)- His love and interest for reading gave Cordero his skills to bacome a primary teacher. He dedicated himself to teaching in his own house with no pay. He taught his students how to read, calligraphy, arithmetic and chrisitian (catholic) instruction.
Maria Bibiana Benitez (1783-1873)- Benitez was known as the first woman poet in Puerto Rico. her first poem was published in 1832, called "La ninfa de Puerto Rico". She was also tghe first woman to write a dramatic play "La CRuz del Morro".
Gods and Goddesses-
Aizan- A goddess who does herbal healing. She protects the temple.
Mait-Carrefour- A nasty god who is weakend by sunlight and strengthened by moonlight.
Baron-Cimetire- A god that is known as the BAron of Cemeteries. Spirit of the dead, he is associated with mortal remains and resting places.
Maya- A voodou Rain goddess.
